Medical staff from the Ministry of Health, MINSA, together with the Community Health Network, have taken part in the first Regional Congress on Health. During the Congress, they reaffirmed their commitment to the Nicaraguan model of community health and service delivery. Participants stressed the importance of support they receive from the Sandinista Government, support which is reflected in the quality of care provided to the population.

Brigadistas, midwives, co-workers and members of the family cabinets joined the event, emphasising the critical role which they play in ensuring the welfare of patients, particularly in rural areas.

'Government support has been instrumental in the development of our functions, we now have better working conditions and training and are better able to attend to the needs of pregnant women. As a result, infant and maternal mortality have decreased significantly' said Yadira Baltodano, a midwife from San Rafael del Sur.
