The 2015 budget passed by the Nicaraguan National Assembly this month illustrates the Government's commitment to continuing with its social programmes and giving priority to health and education. The budget provides for salary increases of 9% for teachers, 7% for health workers and 5% for other government workers. One thousand new teachers, 600 health care workers and 600 police officers will be hired. At the same time, government electricity and transportation subsidies will continue.
