NSCAG Briefing on Nicaraguan Elections

Nicaragua faces a critical situation as it approaches elections for the Presidency and National Assembly on 7 November. With Daniel Ortega and the FSLN on course to be re-elected, the United States has upped the ante, threatening Nicaragua with more sanctions and other illegal coercive measures and continuing to fund and support Nicaragua's right wing opposition. There are real fears of another US-backed attempted coup should, as is likely, Ortega and the FSLN win.
