A tribute to Chuck Kaufman

We are deeply saddened to learn of the death on 28th December of Chuck Kaufman, National Co-ordinator of the Alliance for Global Justice. Camila Escalante of Kawsachun News describes him as a 'pillar of solidarity' who was a great comrade and friend to the peoples and just causes of Latin America and the Caribbean. As she says, he will be remembered for the tremendous impact he made during his decades of anti-imperialist work, organising to change US-Latin American foreign policy. In a tribute written by Alliance for Global Justice, they say 'Chuck was a true leader, a visionary, a master strategist and above all, a loving and kind comrade and friend. Through his wise stewardship Alliance for Global Justice grew to become a major force in building the capacity of grass roots organizers throughout the Americas to confront imperialism, neoliberalism and oppression in all forms and to strive to curb U.S. violations of human rights, both within and outside its borders.' We worked together with Chuck on a number of joint AFGJ/NSCAG initiatives. He was a joy to work with, always willing to offer his support and such a kind and generous man. We send our deepest condolences to Chuck's family, comrades and friends. Chuck was an inspirational man who will live on in the memory of millions of Nicaraguans and Latin Americans who received his generous support and solidarity in their efforts to be free and independent.
