Ortega Proposes National Accord to Eradicate Poverty

In a speech marking the birthday of national hero Augusto Sandino on 18th May, President Daniel Ortega has proposed a long term national accord between workers and the private sector in an effort to eradicate poverty in Nicaragua which he said affects 42% of Nicaragua's six million citizens. The National Workers Front, FNT, has accepted the challenge, saying that the struggle against poverty is the struggle of workers, farmers, business people and of all Nicaraguans. The Government is preparing a National Production Plan which will be presented for consultation with all sectors.
