Nicaragua responds to the COVID-19 Pandemic

As at the end of March, there were three confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nicaragua. One person out of the three has died due to complications from COVID-19 and another 14 people were under observation but had so far tested negative for the virus.*
Until now, Nicaragua has been successful in preventing the virus from spreading, largely due to a public health system which offers free, universal health services based on community-focussed preventative care.

* Latest update as of 3 April 2020 indicates that there have now been 5 cases, of which one person has died, 1 has recovered and 3 are under hospital care. All of the cases have been among people from outside the country and there are no reports of community-based cases.
