UNISON has sent a message of solidarity to the public sector union UNE, who will be holding their Congress this week on 15 April. The message, signed by UNISON General Secretary Dave Prentis, and addressed to UNE General Secretary Domingo Perez, reads as follows:-

'On behalf of UNISON and its 1.3 million members, I would like to send a warm message of solidarity and friendship to our comrades in UNE, and in particular comrade Domingo Perez, as you meet for your union's congress.

UNISON and UNE have a long history of co-operation and I am pleased that we continue to support you today training a new generation of union activists thorugh our International Development Fund. But solidarity is a two-way process and you have consistently shown solidarity with us as we have resisted the attacks on public services and workers' rights here in the UK.

UNISON wishes you a successful outcome to your congress leading a more united and fighting trade union movement in Nicaragua'.

Through its International Development Fund, UNISON has supported the establishment of a trade union training school for UNE. UNE is also being invited to send a representative to UNISON's National Delegate Conference in June.
